WHY A FITNESS BOOTCAMP COULD HELP YOU TO LOSE WEIGHT?
As a personal trainer, I believe that bootcamps are a great choice for achieving weight loss. When you join a bootcamp, you’re signing up for a unique fitness experience. For example, and based on the experiences of some of my clients, being part of a training group or bootcamp has helped them to lose weight and maintain their optimal weight.
As I often say to my clients, “the easiest part is to lose weight in the short term, the hardest part is to maintain this desired weight in the long term. Being part of a training group or bootcamp could be more effective for you to lose weight as it’s more fun. You are pushed by the others you are training with and you are more committed to show up when perhaps you are not so willing to do, when you train by yourself.

ACCOUNTABILITY
I also believe that accountability is key for weight loss success. As I mentioned before, when you join a bootcamp, you’re committing to showing up. This can help keep you motivated and accountable, as you won’t want to let yourself, or your fellow bootcampers down.
Sometimes, and this is based on my own experience as a PT, some people skip their workout sessions depending on their mood, energy levels and motivation. I totally understand that but if that occurs frequently, you need to understand that you are delaying your progress. That’s why training with others can solve this problem. You might not have slept well last night, you are not in the mood, you haven’t had a great day at work, etc. Just thinking about the people you are going to meet/see at the training, the jokes you will share with some people, the laughing, the music, being outdoors, the post workout feeling that you will have after you have showered, etc. I guarantee you that you will feel motivated to put your shoes on and run to the common.

GREAT RESULTS WITH THE PROPER TRAINING PROTOCOLS AND EQUIPMENT
In addition to accountability, bootcamps can also help you build muscle through strength exercises. By building muscle, you can increase your metabolism and burn more calories throughout the day. In general, bootcamps often include a variety of strength training exercises, such as squats, lunges, pulls exercises, push-ups, etc. So you can build muscle while also burning calories. In my sessions, for example, to make the sessions more effective and a part of using our own body weight, I use a huge variety of equipment such as TRX, the bars of the outdoor gym, resistance bands, battle ropes, etc.
The high-intensity exercises that I use during my fitness sessions are designed to burn more calories in a shorter amount of time than other types of workouts thereby making them a great way to shed pounds and improve your overall health. It’s not magic, but if you push yourself enough to your daily limits, you will see the results without even realising it. I tend to use boxing as a part of the HIIT element.
Some of my existing clients had previously attended other forms of bootcamps where they did not use any equipment. I think by not using any equipment limits in some respect, the effectiveness of a proper workout itself. As I’m always saying to my clients; “it’s always better to do some exercises with your own body weight than nothing, but if you have the chance to use equipment, it will be more effective for your progress and safer to prevent injuries along the way”.
However, as with any type of exercise, the effectiveness of bootcamps for weight loss depends on several factors:
One is the intensity that you apply while you are exercising. More intensity in the sessions = more kcal that you will burn.
The other is the frequency of workouts that you do per week. The results will not be the same if you train just 1 day per week rather than 3 times per week. The more frequently you train, the better the results. Consider resting a day in between training sessions as it is also really important for your body to recover.
And the last one, and possibly the MOST IMPORTANT

BE AWARE OF WHAT, HOW AND HOW MUCH YOU EAT
Your diet is one key factor to consider. No amount of exercise can compensate for a poor diet, so if you’re serious about losing weight, you’ll need to pay attention to what you’re eating. I usually give some general tips to my clients if it’s needed but the best way to boost your diet is being guided by a qualified nutritionist.
-
YOU FITNESS LEVEL
It’s also important to consider your current fitness level before joining a bootcamp. In my fitness groups, for example, I welcome all levels as I adapt the exercises for the beginners. But if someone has never exercised before or they haven’t done any exercise for a long time, I highly recommend to do one on one sessions firsthand, and when they know the right technique of the exercises, and have built a bit more strength, stamina and confidence, then they can join one of the bootcamps.

TRAINING IN A BOOTCAMP & GROUP TRAINING IT IS A GREAT OPTION FOR YOU TO LOSE WEIGHT
In conclusion, I recommend bootcamps as an effective way to lose weight and also to improve your physical and mental health. Bootcamp classes increase the potential for you to build muscle and increase your metabolism. However, it’s important to remember that weight loss also requires a healthy diet, and finding the right type of bootcamp depending on your fitness level and goals.
